GUEST EDITORIAL: Entertaining UFC on FX 2 event leaves a few unanswered questions

The UFC switching from Spike TV to the Fox family of networks was a great idea. UFC on FX 2 wasn't the best event, but it had its excitement. The inaugural flyweight tournament was extremely exciting to watch; Ian McCall is everything I was hoping for, Mighty Mouse is the fastest person in the UFC, and that was a great matchup. However, it was a shame how the bout ended. I scored the fight 29-28 for McCall, though there was a definite case that the fight could've been scored a draw, as two judges had it. Seeing as though the UFC had a sudden death round in place just in case the first three rounds ended in a draw, it's a travesty that the commission had the judges scores announced wrong.

The Joseph Benavidez-Yasuhiro Urushitani bout was one I expected Joe to dominate, and that he did. Not taking anything away from Urushitani, but he was overmatched. I had never seen him fight before, but Benavidez was a dynamic bantamweight, and he wasn't even in his natural weight class. This was a great win for him and whoever faces him for the Flyweight Championship is in for a war.

The preliminary card was fun to watch. It had a lot of finishes; the Steven Siler-Cole Miller fight probably could've gotten "Fight of the Night" on any other day. Congratulations are also in order to the new kid in the middleweight division, Andrew Craig, for weathering the early storm and grinding out a decision against Kyle Noke. James Te Huna's power is unquestionable, and I was also happy to see Anthony Perosh go to his more natural weight class; it shows that he can compete there.

As for the main event, Thiago Alves let 'The Hitman' of the hook. He was controlling the fight, dominating the standup, even using his wrestling to control Martin Kampmann somewhat. As we all know, Kampmann finished his with a great choke and the rest is history. All in all it was a good card, and a good night of fights on free tv.

But what's next? Is John Dodson going to debut in the Flyweight divison? In my opinion, he should've have been apart of the tournament. It would be intriguing to see how he matches up with the best of that division. Should Thiago move up in weight? Should Martin Kampmann get a top five opponent? The UFC on FX 2 event answered a lot of questions, but also left a lot unanswered. Hopefully the UFC will answer them soon.
