Strikeforce: Kennedy vs. Rockhold card live from the Rose Garden in Portland Oregon continues with an old fan favorite and a member of one of the most prestigious families in MMA.
Blue Corner: Roger Gracie (4-1-0, 2-1-0 Strikeforce) vs. Red Corner: Keith Jardine (16-11-1, 0-1-1 Strikeforce)
Jardine the runaway fan favorite coming out to blaring bagpipe music. The majority of the opening minute finds a standstill before Jardine is taken down by Gracie, who dominates the next two minutes on top. As they go toward the cage, Gracie takes Jardine down again, and presses him down before barraging him with blows. Gracie eventually steps over into a half mount before securing a high full mount. Gracie works toward an armbar before reigning down elbows to end the round.
The second round opens with Jardine putting pressure forward, attempting to pepper jabs before Gracie takes him down off a missed right hook. Gracie manages to get Jardine’s back and presses down on him. Jardine is really bloody, which given his previous propensity for bleeding, should come as no surprise. After working on Jardine, Gracie looks to get a rear naked, followed by an attempt at an arm-triangle choke. The round ends with Gracie on top and both fighters covered in Jardine’s blood.
The opening moments of the third round are just like the second. Jardine is attempting a lot of strikes standing, and landing few. Jardine does start to land more strikes, as Gracie has slowed his takedowns down a bit. Jardine starts to elicit the crowd’s reaction heading into the last 90 seconds, however, is unable to get in close on Gracie, who keeps him away with leg kicks until the finish. We’re going to the judges scorecards.
Winner: Roger Gracie def. Keith Jardine via Unanimous Decision (29-27, 30-27, 30-26)
