Martin Kampmann wins second straight bonus with finish of Jake Ellenberger

While there may not be actual documentation to support the notion, it seems reasonable to think UFC welterweight Martin Kampmann’s fans are more prone to having grey hair than those of other fighters based on the stress he often puts them through. Last night a few new silver-foxes were no doubt created when “The Hitman” battled back from the brink of defeat – again – to finish an apt adversary.

Fresh off his last-second submission of Thiago Alves, Kampmann’s success came against Jake Ellenberger in the main event of the Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale. Ellenberger hurt Kampmann early and seemed to be seconds away from stopping him at one point, but “The Juggernaut” ultimately ate a knee in the second stanza to seal the deal in Kampmann’s favor. The result was named Knockout of the Night and earned Kampmann an extra $40,000 for the honor.

While Kampmann’s win was impressive he was not the only stand-out scrapper on the card. Justin Lawrence, a contestant on TUF 15, took home dual bonuses with his beautiful head-kick finish of John Cofer. The performance netted the Team Black House member a total of $80,000 after scoring a second Knockout of the Night distinction as well as the bout being labeled as Fight of the Night.

Submission of the Night went to TUF 15 champ Michael Chiesa, capping off one of the most memorable stories in the show’s history based on his father passing away the same night he grabbed a spot inside the season’s house. Chiesa choked opponent Al Iaquinta out cold in the first frame of action. Similarly to his bonus-winning peers the bearded bad-ass won an additional $40,000 on top of his regularly contracted pay.
