The news broke yesterday that an injury forced Brian Stann out of his scheduled main event middleweight bout against Hector Lombard at UFC on FOX 4. It was announced later in the day that Michael Bisping had also been injured and had withdrawn from his upcoming fight against Tim Boetsch at UFC 149.
The unfortunate news for Stann and Bisping led to a ripple effect of changes to the UFC 149 and UFC on FOX 4 fight cards.
Lombard will now make his promotional debut at UFC 149 where he takes Bisping’s spot to take on Tim Boetsch. Boetsch has won his last three bouts since dropping down from light heavyweight to compete as a middleweight. He is coming off an incredible come-from-behind technical knockout win over the tough Yushin Okami at UFC 144.
The UFC on FOX 4 event will now be headlined by a light heavyweight battle between Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Brandon Vera. Rua was scheduled to face Thiago Silva at UFC 149 until an injury prevented Silva from competing on the card. Vera was lined-up to take on James Te Huna at UFC on Fuel TV 4 in July. A new opponent for Te Huna is expected to be announced soon.
