Ronaldo Souza vs. Derek Brunson planned for August Strikeforce event

Strikeforce officials have confirmed the company will hold an event on August 18 from San Diego, announcing Ronda Rousey and Sarah Kaufman would headline the show as expected.

It also appears another match is in works for the card, as middleweights Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Derek Brunson are in the process of finalizing a deal to face off.

MMAWeekly confirmed verbal agreements are in place for the two to tangle in August with the fight clearly having a big impact on the middleweight title picture.

185-pound champion Luke Rockhold will be defending his title against Tim Kennedy in July, and as a former champ in the division Souza (15-3) is hopeful to get another crack at the belt.

Souza defeated Bristol Marunde this past March. He was expected to face Brunson, but the Ohio Athletic Commission would not allow Brunson (9-1) to compete because of an issue with his vision. Since that time, Brunson has had surgery to fix his eyesight, and suffered a short-notice loss to Kendall Grove in a very close decision that many felt belonged to Brunson.
