Joseph Benavidez e1289533385348 Benavidez Johnson title bout, Bisping Stann joins UFC 152 in TorontoThe Ultimate Fighting Championships first flyweight champion will be crowned at UFC 152 on September 22nd in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Canada’s SportsNet first reported the news which was confirmed by UFC officials that Joseph Benavidez will take on Demetrious Johnson in the main event of the fight card. In addition, Brian Stann meets Michael Bisping in a high profile middleweight clash.

Benavidez and Johnson were part of the four-man flyweight tournament which began in March to determine the inaugural champion. Benavidez (16-2) defeated Yasuhiro Urushitani by technical knockout in the second round to advance to the title bout. Johnson appeared to have won a decision over Ian McCall in their bout. However, a scoring error was corrected and the contest was later ruled a majority draw. Johnson and McCall would rematch at UFC on FX 3 in June with Johnson taking a unanimous decision.

Bisping and Stann both had to withdraw from scheduled summer bouts following injuries. Bisping (22-4) was set to collide with Tim Boetsch at UFC 149 while Stann (12-4) was going to take on Hector Lombard at UFC on FOX 4. Bisping last fought at UFC on Fox 2 in January where he dropped a close decision to middleweight title challenger Chael Sonnen. The hard hitting Stann is coming off a second round knockout of Alessio Sakara at UFC at UFC on Fuel TV 2.

UFC 152 is will take place from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The card also includes the return of B.J. Penn who will take on the Rory MacDonald in a welterweight bout.
