Bellator 72 Results: Paul Daley scores strike-based stoppage in Bellator debut

Last night Bellator kept things rolling with a card featuring three tournament fights, including a divisional final, as well as the debut of British brawler Paul Daley and rematch between sensational scrappers Waachiim Spiritwolf-Marius Zaromskis.

Daley looked sharp against seasoned competitor Rudy Bears, blasting him with a few stiff knees in the opening round of action to set up and ground-and-pound finish. The victory likely secured Daley a spot in this fall’s welterweight tourney and was the 21st strike-based stoppage of his career.

In headlining action, Karl Amoussou impressed all by dispatching of Bryan Baker with an Inverted Heel-Hook in the first frame of their bout. The stoppage came after Amoussou swept Baker’s leg to take his back in a standing position before dipping down to secure the former middleweight finalist’s leg and ultimately his foot. His performance earned him a significant paycheck and shot at current 170-pound champion Ben Askren.

Finally, Travis Wiuff and Attila Vegh both earned decision wins in their light heavyweight tournament tilts and will face off in a month to determine the next challenge for Christian M’Pumbu.

Highlights from the event can be seen below followed by a breakdown of Bellator 72 results:
