UFC President Dana White wants to see Hector Lombard at welterweight

Few fighters have entered the Octagon with as much hype surrounding their debut as was the case with former Bellator champion Hector Lombard. The highly-touted Cuban judoka hadn’t been beaten in more than five years while racking up a number of impressive victories against more than a few notable peers. However, come showtime at UFC 149 the American Top Team product struggled to find the same success he’d encountered leading up to the tilt.

In the end Lombard fell to opponent Tim Boetsch by way of Split Decision and fans were left wondering what had happened. After the event’s conclusion UFC President Dana White addressed the issue, saying Lombard’s performance was indicative of two things – talk is cheap and Lombard needs to consider a drop down to 170 pounds.

Lombard Wants Fight with Mark Munoz

“You can’t be angry with (Lombard), but it just shows you guys, ranking guys who don’t fight in the UFC, it’s two different worlds. Guys that fight in other organizations that end up in the Top 10 rankings, it’s a whole other world over here,” said White to media at the post-show press conference. “Lombard, maybe should fight at 170. He made 185 easily. He’s short and wide, but I think he could make 170.”

The 31-3-1 Lombard himself has remained fairly silent on his lackluster performance at the show, though he has come out in the past to say he could make welterweight if he wanted to.
