Former Ultimate Fighter 8 finalist, Vinny Magalhaes, has signed a new contract to return to the UFC. The news was initially reported by Brazilian website Tatame.com which states that Magalhaes could possibly make his return at UFC 151 in September.
Magalhaes (9-5) was released from the UFC after going 0-2 during 2008-2009. He advanced to the TUF 8 finals where he would be knocked out by Ryan Bader. In his next outing Magalhaes would drop a unanimous decision to Eliot Marshall at UFC 97 in April 2009.
Magalhaes, a jiu-jitsu world champion, appears to have come into his own as a mixed martial artist following his release from UFC. He has a 7-1 record since being released which includes capturing the M-1 Global light heavyweight championship in 2011. He has won his last five fights with three wins coming by submission and two by knockout.
UFC 151 takes place from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones will defend his title against Dan Henderson in the main event of the card.
