Lightweights, welterweights slated for The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs. UK

The UFC has decided on two weight classes for the upcoming second international season of The Ultimate Fighter with lightweights and welterweights being brought in.

The season will pit Australia against the United Kingdom, with the series being nicknamed The Smashes based on a cricket-rivalry between the two regions.

When the show’s announcement was initially made that the two countries would be paired up against one another, calls were made out for fighters from 135 pounds to 170. The UFC, however, has since decided on 155 and 170 for the show.

Marshall Zelaznik, the director of the UFC’s international development, told MMAWeekly about the decision. The coaches for the series have yet to be named, though, Ross Pearson seems like a likely candidate for the U.K. given his own history on the series.
