Waldburger v Ebersole - The future of BJJ in MMA?

That fight highlighted something I've suspected for a while - it's almost impossible to submit someone with decent sub defense without rocking him first. Burger had Ebersole in all sorts of chokes, but the hairy one simply kept calm, moved correctly, and eventually popped out.

To me, it seems unlikely that fighters which have submissions as their go-to offense will continue to have success at the high levels of the sport for very long.

That's not to say that fighters should abandon the offensive submission game, the ability to threaten with submissions will make your opponents think twice about a number of things, but I really think that at this point, submission specialists are setting themselves up to fail.

Mods - I posted this in the UFC forum because that is the highest level of the sport and most of the fights I'm basing this observation on are in the UFC. Feel free to move it to general MMA if you think it's more appropriate.
