WWE RAW Backstage Fallout/Review: Dolph Ziggler Becomes #1 Contender in Best Match Ever to Feature Great Khali

Dolph Ziggler, who’s notably been taking it easy on the #HEEL catchphrase lately, had probably his best and best-deserved reaction from a live TV crowd to date in an elimination match win over fellow short-term former World Champions Great Khali, Jack Swagger, and Christian. The last few minutes before Ziggler hit his finisher, the–sigh–Zig Zag–for the pin was the night’s best stretch of wrestling by far. I guessed–and got psyched for–a Ziggler win here but they had me. I wish Dolph Ziggler would win more because his celebrations are so great. He and Sheamus talk themselves up in tonight’s Backstage Fallout in advance of their No Way Out World Heavyweight Championship Match.

OMG AJ made out with Kane in Front of EVERYONE. The AJ/CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan/Kane match was nothing more than the sideshow crap they brought them out for. AJ takes her character a lot more seriously than the commentators or writers do, taking every opportunity to wave her away with a “psycho alert!” or a demeaning pat on the head from Punk. Punk’s comments on AJ have been the equivalent of “look at this adorable puppy” in terms of objectification, and they all really need to knock it the hell off because AJ is getting herself over way more effectively without their attempts at help. For her part she’s portraying That Crrr-uh-haaazy Chick in a way that and leaves viewers with a desire to keep watching and explore her motivations. AJ, who had personality to spare ever since her NXT days, is a rare woman in WWE with a chance to develop something complex and nuanced. Relatedly, I hear Rosa Mendes is going to start flipping her hair to the left before matches now, instead of to the right.

Vince McMahon appropriating Brodus Clay‘s catchphrase and dancing with the Funkadactyls was surprisingly by far the least offensive of McMahon’s appearances throughout the three hours of RAW. Afterward Naomi and Cameron did an admirable enough job selling that experience like a hug from Ryan Gosling.
