Chris Weidman earns Knockout of the Night for finish of Mark Munoz

Entering last night’s main event match-up at UFC on Fuel 4 against Mark Munoz, middleweight Chris Weidman was seen as little more than a polished grappler with a lot of potential. Exiting the bout, the 28-year old made it clear his skills extend well beyond those on the mat, knocking Munoz out a little more than 90 seconds into the second round of the scrap.

The finish came as a result of a perfectly-placed elbow as Munoz moved in to throw a punch, setting up a finishing sequence of strikes on the then-downed “Filipino Wrecking Machine”. The win not only moved Weidman up the contendership ladder but also scored him an extra $40,000 after winning Knockout of the Night honors.

Fight of the Night unfolded moments before Weidman ascended into the title-picture when light heavyweights James Te Huna-Joey Beltran battled it out for fifteen firework-laden minutes. The two strikers slugged it out with Te Huna edging Beltran out in the end thanks to some stiff shots and superior conditioning. Each man was awarded $40,000 for the distinction.

A Detailed Look at Te Huna vs. Beltran

Submission of the Night was slapped on Alex Caceres for his Triangle Choke finish of Damacio Page. He too won $40,000 for his performance at the event.
