Typically there are two avenues fighters take after the conclusion of a bout – absolute respect or complete indifference. However, a rarely seen third option came into play this past Friday night once UFC lightweights Clay Guida and Gray Maynard made their way backstage to receive medical treatment for damage sustained in their five-round rumble at UFC on FX 4.
Still fuming from a frustrating effort, the two men got into a verbal altercation while UFC cameras were rolling and ultimately had to be separated before things got out of hand.
Guida’s anger was the result of losing a hard-fought decision he felt he’d won based on damage and precision, while Maynard’s ire stemmed from Guida’s constant movement and lack of engagement inside the Octagon.
