UFC light heavyweight king Jon Jones knew what to expect during the build up to bouts with Quinton Jackson and Rashad Evans, as both are commonly known for treating trash-talk like a job requirement. Expectedly, each took personal swipes at Jones including “Rampage” accusing the 24-year old of having spies and Evans essentially calling him a backstabber.
However, in the case of upcoming opponent Dan Henderson it seemed the match-up was more likely to be focused on overall ability rather than verbal warfare. As such, some of Henderson’s comments towards Jones have left the young champion scratching his head and wondering what went wrong.
“No clue why Dan Henderson decided to be so disrespectful to me leading up to this fight, but it is what it is. I could use the motivation,” wrote Jones on Twitter. “The dude’s done so much for the sport, I’m not even trying to come at him like that. I did enough trash talking with ‘Rampage’ & Evans.”
“FYI – Henderson’s mouth isn’t bothering me at all, I just figured with all his experience he’d be over stuff like that,” he concluded.
Henderson has questioned Jones’ technical proficiency and borderline-cocky attitude. The two will lock horns to settle the score on September 1 at UFC 151.
