It’s been five months since Strikeforce bantamweight Miesha Tate took on Olympic judoka Ronda Rousey after an intense period of trash-talk between the two. Though Tate would ultimately go on to lose the bout, suffering a submission loss in the opening round, it doesn’t look like her spirit has diminished any in the period since then as the former 135-pound champion made clear in a recent interview.
Apparently the 12-3 Tate, who fights Julie Kedzie on August 18, is out to prove she deserves a second shot at Rousey and still has a score to settle with the unbeaten title-holder.
“For the most part fighting is strictly professional for me. But I would like to be the first person to beat Ronda. It would be nice taking her off the pedestal and humbling her,” said Tate in an interview with Punch Drunk Radio. “Ronda isn’t any better than anyone else and needs to shut her mouth. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Getting my belt back is appealing, but beating Ronda would be like that for me. It would be that sweet of a fight.”
