UFC 150 Results: Jake Shields makes successful return to middleweight over Ed Herman in dull fight

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Jake Shields made his return to the middleweight division on Saturday night, picking up a win over Ed Herman by decision in Denver at UFC 150.

It wasn't his most spectacular win, indeed it was one of his more methodical, laborious performances, but it was certainly effective enough to earn a unanimous decision. Herman played right into him, initiating a clinch early and allowing the fight to be contested as a grappling battle.

The first round didn't feature much action, as both fighters worked in the clinch against the cage, but in the second and third rounds, Shields scored takedowns and spent a considerable amount of time working from top position. There wasn't much more to the fight than that, and Shields ultimately earned the nod.

The win was his second straight, and first at 185 lbs. since defeating Dan Henderson in Strikeforce in 2010. For Herman, the disappointingly dull loss snapped his exciting three-fight winning streak.
