Former UFC heavyweight champions Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski will clash for the fourth time with this bout coming at ONE FC: Pride of a Nation on August 31. In the three times they have faced off prior to this month’s match-up, the Belarusian won the first bout by submission and the American the next two, by TKO and decision.
Both decided to leave the UFC when their contracts expired despite having 10-4 records inside the Octagon and both have been on good form of late with Arlovski winning his last two fights and Sylvia his last three.
This takes the total of former UFC champions appearing on ONE FC’s first ever card in the Philippines to three with Jens Pulver set to take on Eric Kelly. DREAM champions Shinya Aoki and Bibiano Fernandes are also in action as well as former Strikeforce title-holder Renato Sobral.
16,500 fans are expected at the Areneta Coliseum, the same venue in which Frazier once fought Ali, and they will get to witness the biggest heavyweight fight to be held in the country since. Sylvia has been working his way up the rankings lately winning seven out of his last eight fights while Arovski’s two recent wins show that he is still very much a force to be reckoned with.
Things could get personal because not only have they fought three times before but sometime after the third and final fight Sylvia started dating Arlovski’s girlfriend which did not go down at all well with the ‘The Pitbull’ (i.e. “How taste my pee-pee?”).
Another bout announced this week sees 6-1 URCC champion Honorio Banario take on 4-2-1 Andrew Benibe in an all Filipino featherweight clash.
