Frankie Edgar: “People call you champ, it has a nice ring to it.”

The word “former” is one UFC lightweight Frankie Edgar doesn’t like having attached to his name in reference to his championship status. It’s an issue he hopes to remedy in less than two weeks when he goes head-to-head with Benson Henderson for the divisional belt at UFC 150.

“When you taste being a champion, you like to be the one defending your belt, not trying to go and get it. People call you champ, it has a nice ring to it,” said Edgar in an interview series chronicling his journey to the August 11 bout.

Edgar and Henderson fought to a relatively close decision in February, giving “The Answer” a good deal of hope where reclaiming the title he formerly held is concerned.

“I don’t think about doing things differently – I just have to do them a little bit better,” he added on what adjustments he might make to defeat Henderson this time around.
