Last night the ladies of MMA once again proved they have as much right to rumble in the cage as their male counterparts thanks to an extremely entertaining collective effort at Invicta FC 2. The all-female promotion filled up Memorial Hall in Kansas City with a group of raucous fans thanks to a card featuring many of the top women in the sport and didn’t disappoint with the lineup including exciting outings from Hitomi Akano-Alexis Davis, Liz Carmouche-Kaitlin Young, and headliners Sara McMann-Shayna Baszler.
Carmouche and Davis added to the evening’s ten finishes with their submission wins over Akano and Young respectively. Carmouche’s win came after a rough opening round seeing Young as the aggressor, while Davis outclassed the veteran Akano throughout en route to her twelfth career victory.
The main event certainly didn’t leave anyone snoozing either, as McMann and Baszler went back and forth, entering the third round with one frame apiece on most viewer’s scorecards. McMann, a silver medalist wrestler, seemingly had the final stanza locked up due to a few takedowns but almost saw it fly out of the window with a well-placed shot from Baszler. In the end, McMann remained unbeaten due to a judges’ decision, maintaining her perfect record at 6-0 and doing her fellow Olympians proud while the games go on in England.
