UFC on FOX 4 Results – Machida KOs Bader to earn title shot, Shogun TKOs Vera

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua takes on Brandon Vera in the main event while Lyoto Machida battles Ryan Bader in the co-main event. The most impressive winner of their fight will earn a title shot against the light heavyweight champion.

UFC on FOX 4 takes place from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The four fight main card will be televised live on FOX beginning at 8:00pm ET while the preliminary card will air on FUEL TV at 5:00pm ET.

Preliminary Card Results

John Moraga defeated Ulysses Gomez by knockout at 3:46 of the first round.

Manny Gamburyan defeated Michihiro Omigawa by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).

Phil De Fries defeated Oli Thompson by rear-naked choke submission at 4:16 of the second round.

Rani Yahya defeated Josh Grispi by north-south choke submission at 3:15 of the first round.

Phil Davis vs. Wagner Prado is ruled a No Contest.
Prado was accidentally poked in the eye by Davis. The poke cut Prado on the inside corner under the eye. The cageside doctor was called in to look at the eye and the fight was called.

Nam Phan defeated Cole Miller by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Main Card Results

Mike “Quick” Swick defeated DaMarques “Darkness” Johnson by knockout at 1:20 of the second round.
It was a successful return to the octagon for Swick would has battled illness for the past two years. An action packed first round saw Swick get best of the standup game with a stinging right hand. However, Johnson would control the action on the ground where he punished Swick with punches and elbows from a dominate full mount. In the second round, Swick caught a kick from Johnson and pushed him backwards to the ground. As Johnson fell Swick followed him down and landed a brutal right that put Darkness to sleep.

Joe Lauzon defeated Jamie Varner by triangle choke submission at 2:44 of the third round.
This was an entertaining lightweight war. Varner and Lauzon stood toe-to-toe and traded strikes for most of the bout. Varner look sharp early as he ripped body shots and then dropped Lauzon with overhand right. Lauzon began to take control in the second as he controlled the action on the ground. In the third round, it appeared that Varner’s strategy was took capitalize on takedowns. Varner landed a double-leg but Lauzon swept to escape and almost took Varner’s back. In the scramble Lauzon quickly transitioned to a triangle which ultimately forced Varner to tap.

Lyoto Machida defeated Ryan Bader by knockout at 1:32 of the second round.
Machida used his trademark movement along with a variety of kicks to control the first round. He kept the fight at his range as Bader was unable to land anything of significance. In the second round, Bader looked to close the distance as he rushed in behind a straight right hand. However, Machida responded with huge right that put Bader to sleep.

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua defeated Brandon “The Truth” Vera by technical knockout at 4:09 of the fourth round.
It was a war between the light heavyweights as they both left it all in the cage. Rua appeared to be on the way to making it a quick night as it appeared he had Vera’s number standing and on the ground. However, to Vera’s credit he made it a fight as he was at his best from distance and landing combinations followed-up by kicks. Vera also had success with short elbow strikes. Both fighters appeared to struggle with their cardio as the fight progressed. Despite Vera’s efforts it was Rua who controlled the fight. In the fourth, Rua landed a big left hook that rocked Vera and another flurry put him to the ground. Rua would crack Vera with a few more rights before referee Herb Dean called off the punishment.

In a post event interview UFC president Dana White announced that Lyoto Machida would get the next shot at the light heavyweight championship.
