Dan Henderson hopes to knock Jon Jones out but not focused on it

Though legendary light heavyweight Dan Henderson may not be a submission specialist, there’s no questioning his grappling credentials as an accomplished amateur with Olympic experience to boot. However, “Hendo” has gained a reputation for being a one-trick pony over the years thanks to his powerful overhand strike labeled the “H-Bomb” based on its devastating nature.

When it comes to the 41-year old’s upcoming bout against Jon Jones at UFC 151, Henderson has made it clear he’ll be looking to put Jones away but isn’t afraid to pace things as opposed to continually throwing singular blows aimed at leaving Jones looking up at the Mandalay Bay Events Center’s lighting fixtures.

“My focus is to win every round and not to land the H-Bomb. If I win every round and hit him pretty good along the way, hopefully it knocks him out. But I do need to make sure I get inside his length and stay in his face and make him fight me,” explained Henderson in a recent interview with MMAWeekly. “I’ve had title fights in the past and had certain things happen where I should have done something different. I’m going to make sure I make the best of this one and not let this opportunity go by and make sure I win this fight.”

Jones Confused by What He Perceives as Henderson’s Disrespect

Henderson will enter the affair on a four-fight winning streak including success against Fedor Emelianenko and Mauricio Rua. He holds an overall record of 29-8 with thirteen of his victories involving a strike-based stoppage.

UFC 151 is scheduled for September 1.
