Lyoto Machida still tempted by move to middleweight

Former UFC champion Lyoto Machida turned heads at yesterday’s weigh-ins for UFC on FOX 4 when he stepped on the scale at a slim 201 pounds. Though never a particularly large light heavyweight, Machida’s mark being so low brought up a number of questions about his interest in dropping down to 185 pounds despite his friend/training partner Anderson Silva currently holding the division’s title.

Machida addressed speculation in an interview with Fuel TV after the festivities where he acknowledged the possibility of dipping his toes in the middleweight pool.

Machida Could Emerge as Top Contender with Big Win on FOX

“I always walk around at 205, 210 maximum,” said Machida, saying he would drop down if offered a big fight at 185 pounds.

However, Machida is not interested in attempting to take Silva’s title, explaining, “No, no…Anderson is my friend. Same team, same manager. I think Anderson is the true champion.”

Before exploring his next move, “The Dragon” is booked to battle Ryan Bader tonight on FOX. Main card action kicks off at 8:00 PM EST with prelims airing on Fuel TV in the hours leading up to the featured fights.
